Advent Week Two: Peace

Today is the second Sunday of Advent! We pray that reading these verses and singing this song will be an encouragement to you as you reflect on the peace that we have in Christ!

Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 55:12-13 (ESV)

   “ [12] “For you shall go out in joy
      and be led forth in peace;
  the mountains and the hills before you
      shall break forth into singing,
      and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

    [13] Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress;
    instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle;
  and it shall make a name for the LORD,
    an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.””

New Testament Reading: John 1:29 (ESV)

“[29] The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

Song: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.

(Refrain)
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.

(Refrain)

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.

(Refrain)

O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.

(Refrain)
